The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken a significant step in its probe into alleged malpractices in Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) recruitment exams. On Tuesday, the team presented a letter to the Commission secretary, demanding detailed documents related to the exam conducted for key posts within the Planning Board. This move underscores the team's commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring fair practices in the recruitment process.
The investigators are seeking a wide range of documents, including mark lists, answer sheets, question papers, tabular sheets, and interview mark lists. This comprehensive approach suggests a thorough investigation into the exam's integrity. IG S Ajeetha Begum, leading the SIT, met with PSC chairman M R Baiju to discuss the required documents and seek cooperation. This meeting was a crucial step in formalizing the request for these materials.
The SIT's efforts come amidst a backdrop of concerns. So far, approximately 20 complaints have been received regarding various PSC recruitment exams, indicating a need for a thorough and impartial investigation. Initially, the government considered a vigilance probe, but legal advice led to a shift towards a crime branch investigation. This decision highlights the complexity of the case and the importance of a specialized approach.
The legal opinion from the Director General of Prosecution was pivotal in this regard. It emphasized that the crime branch, as a specialized wing, has the legal authority to investigate a wide range of crimes, whereas vigilance can only probe offenses under the Prevention of Corruption Act. This distinction underscores the SIT's strategic choice in opting for a crime branch investigation, ensuring a more comprehensive and effective probe.
As the investigation progresses, the SIT's actions send a clear message: malpractices in recruitment exams will not be tolerated.
